Since 2015, the Natchitoches Parish Early Childhood Care & Education Network, which consists of the Natchitoches Parish School Board, City of Natchitoches Early Childhood Education & Development, Natchitoches Parish Head Starts, and all Type III Childcare providers, has been working as a collaborative team to ensure all children enrolled within their programs receive high quality care and preparation for kindergarten. They work together to offer children the best age appropriate academic instruction by using Tier I curriculums, offering professional development trainings, and constant monitoring with a Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS). For the first time, all publicly funded Early Childhood programs, including Early Childhood Type III centers, Head Starts, and public Pre-K classrooms received performance ratings of Excellent (6.00 – 7.00), Proficient (4.50 – 5.99), Approaching Proficient (3.0 – 4.49), or Unsatisfactory (1.0 – 2.99). As a result of the Network’s efforts, the 2016-2017 Performance Profile scores listed below show improvements for all Early Childhood program site types:
